Computer Nitrox Specialty

1 Day

No dives are required for this course

Nitrox diving opens up a new world of increased bottom time and safety if used to build conservatism into your dive plans. Nitrox is any mixture of nitrogen and oxygen including air but Nitrox usually means increased oxygen percentages in your diving gas. More correctly referred to as Enriched Air Nitrox (EAN), this increased oxygen reduces your nitrogen uptake under pressure and therefore extends the no-decompression limits (NDL) for a specific dive plan/depth.

Often EAN is thought to be a deep diving gas but this is incorrect in fact, at partial pressures above 1.4 oxygen can become toxic and cause seizures which is very serious under water. Detailed training is required in the correct use of EAN.

Who this course is for:

  • Certified divers looking to advance their knowledge and skill set

  • Certified divers looking to extend their no decompression time limits

Course prerequisites:

  • Minimum age 18, 10 with parental consent

  • Open Water Scuba Diver, Junior Open Water Scuba Diver, or equivalent, or current enrollment in one of those courses

What you can expect to learn:

  • Physiology of using different breathing gas mixtures

  • Equipment considerations for using nitrox

  • How to safely use nitrox mixtures up to 40 percent with a dive computer

  • Advantages and disadvantages of utilizing nitrox mixtures

  • How to analyze a nitrox mixture and record results in the Dive Centre log

What’s in it for you?

The benefits of using Nitrox including:

  • Increased safety margins
